While the fall baseball season may not count towards the playoffs, it is still an important time for the players, to come together as a team and begin to prep for the spring season and hopefully the playoffs; it also has its fair share of interesting games and plays. Varsity baseball had a good fall season ending at 4-2-1, beating the teams they should and keeping the others close and competitive.
The Eagles played well during the fall with only one subpar performance. The pitching for the fall was on point with only one game seeing the staff give up more than three runs. The hitting while faltering at times was still consistent enough to put together an above five hundred fall season and featured some pop as outfielder Gavin Noriega hit two homeruns, one at home and one away at Iona. The defense was exceptional as well with almost all the routine plays being made as well as some of the harder ones as well, not giving up an egregious amount of errors except for in one loss.
The four wins were against Stepinac, Regis, Cardinal Hayes, and Scanlan. Salesian fell to Fordham, in a close one run game, and All Hallows, in which nothing seemed to be able to go their way. The last game was a one-run tie against Iona in a well-played game on both sides.
The coaching staff saw a shake up as the only returning coach on the Varsity level was the head coach, Coach Delvalle. The coaching staff, which had multiple coaches for different aspects of the game reverted to a two-coach staff with just the head coach and assistant coach. The assistant coach, JP, has quickly become a part of the Salesian baseball family and has become an integral part of the baseball program.
The fall season saw the mainly underclassmen team play good baseball and stay in, if not put away, most of their games without the team playing to its full potential. One can only imagine the heights the next few years hold for the program if the potential of the baseball team can be fully realized, and who knows, maybe a championship is in the near future.
