The coronavirus has been active in the U.S. for over a month now, and there have been many restrictions and guidelines put in place to help prevent it. Even so, the count of casualties are increasing and the number of infected are sky-rocketing. New York, in particular, has become the epicenter of coronavirus cases in the U.S. as it has at least a total of 92,381 cases as of late. However, Andrew Cuomo has done the utmost of his ability, as governor of New York, to help prevent the coronavirus from spreading to the rest of the U.S. In fact, he has been working towards the prevention of coronavirus from the very beginning of March, which was when the first coronavirus case in New York was announced.
Throughout the entire time the coronavirus was in New York, Cuomo has always tried to keep the morale of the New York population high. His speeches always induced high morality as he would always ensure that New York and the entirety of the U.S. would get through this pandemic better than ever. Cuomo also handled the situation, in my opinion, very well as he would always try his best to respond to the problems of the coronavirus.
Some of Cuomo’s most notable contributions to the slowing of the coronavirus included when he had banned gatherings of more than 500 people. This ban may not have played a major part in the prevention of the spreading of the coronavirus as he said, when he announced that all non-essential businesses in the state were to be closed. However, when Cuomo banned gatherings of more than 500 people, it was only the 12th of March, which was when New York only had about 325 cases of the virus.
This shows that from very early on, Cuomo was already thinking of ways he could contain the virus. From then on, Cuomo never stopped imposing further social distancing guidelines, and increasing other restrictions to help prevent the virus from spreading. For instance, on March 31, he said that the NYPD will have to enforce social distancing, since there are some people who are not following the guidelines. Cuomo also says that he will make social distancing into a law if people continue to disobey the guidelines.
All in all, I believe that Andrew Cuomo has been doing the best he could as governor to help prevent the coronavirus from spreading even further than it already has. He has been working towards the prevention of the virus from very early on, even before the President, Donald Trump, had declared it to be a national emergency. Even now, he is still trying his best to help the medical field combat the virus. Overall, in my opinion, Cuomo, so far, has done a great job at trying to contain the coronavirus in New York.
