Every year the Salesian Players reinvent a new way to bring a classic story to life within our school. This year they’ve chosen to do a run of Twelfth Night in the park(-ing lot). Luckily, I was able to get a statement from the directors about what this show is all about! When asked about the production of the show, they responded with, “When thinking of ways to reinvigorate The Salesian Players and to give the chance for some boys who want to act in a play but don’t necessarily want to sing in a musical, we’ve considered doing a straight play for several years. After borrowing the concept of performing Shakespeare outside through the wonderful “Shakespeare In The Park” from the amazing people at The Public Theatre, we thought it might be great to bring Shakespeare to our own park(ing lot). We chose Twelfth Night, which is arguably Shakespeare’s best comedy. It’s a fast paced dash through romance, mistaken identities, and lots of hijinx on the way. Knowing our boys, the show was a perfect choice. It gives them the chance to be silly while also giving them a chance to show off their acting chops. Our show will run about an hour and will be filled with lots of laughs and smiles. The performances are also free AND there’ll be refreshments! So come and support your Salesian Players October 29 & 30!” I, personally, am excited to watch this show and see what they have in store for us this year, but all I know for sure is that I’ll be first in line to watch it opening night and you should too!
