Are you a fan of complex relationships and interactions between characters, intense battles, and most importantly, dragons? If you answered yes, then House of the Dragon is definitely a show you should check out. House of the Dragon is airing on HBO Max, and is the prequel to the critically acclaimed Game of Thrones series that is available on the same platform. The shows are based on the book series A Song of Fire & Ice and Fire & Blood created by George R.R. Martin.
Taking place hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon focuses on House Targaryen, a noble house known and feared for their powerful connections to dragons. The main conflict is between factions of House Targaryen that formed after a dispute over who will succeed King Viserys once he passes away, his daughter Rhaenyra who he declared his heir, or his son Aegon II who should be the heir through traditional succession. Featuring a strong cast including Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Paddy Considine, and more, House of the Dragon’s most pivotal plot moments are further amplified by the Emmy-caliber performances. After the controversial final season of Game of Thrones, many fans were worried about the potential future of the series. It is safe to say that House of the Dragon has returned to the quality Game of Thrones maintained for nearly a decade.
With the first season coming to an end, there will be three more seasons planned. If you end up checking it out, I would highly recommend watching Game of Thrones after you finish, as it may be a long wait for season two. And be honest, a show filled to the brim with giant dragons is just destined for greatness.
